'Total War Warhammer 2': Empire Campaign Strategy Guide
KEY POINTS
- Players need to unite the Empire and ally with the Dwarves and Bretonnia to win the campaign
- Capture Nuln for easy access to early artillery
- Focus on building growth and economy structures early for an easier late-game
The Empire campaign under Emperor Karl Franz in "Total War: Warhammer 2" can be a bit daunting at first, but there are a few proven strategies that can help players unite the Elector Counts against the End Times.
Here’s one strategy to consider for players who are new to the game.
Early Game Priorities
Secure Reikland and establish at least one growth building per settlement. It’s best to create recruitment/tech buildings in Altdorf and income buildings in the outer settlements.
Try to crush the Secessionists as early as possible and then secure Helmgart, which serves as a bulwark against Greenskins coming from the southwest. It may be best to station a small army here to reinforce the garrison.
Next, capture Nuln and Marienburg for early access to Hellstorm Rocket Batteries and the most lucrative port in the game. Rockets are extremely powerful and the Tier-3 production facility in Nuln can save players plenty of time and money. Meanwhile, the port in Marienburg can greatly boost the Empire’s economy, so it’s best to capture this settlement as early as possible.
Once these are done, start establishing relations with Elector Counts. Middenland and the Golden Order are solid choices as they can help fend off threats from the north and south, respectively. Players won’t be able to satisfy all of the Elector Counts, so it’s best to keep making friends with those who have strategic importance.
Mid-Late Game
After setting up a solid foundation, it’s time to take the fight to the Vampire Counts. Invest in Handgunners and anti-large infantry to counter armored targets, monsters and cavalry. The vampires tend to spam cavalry, so a solid line of spears is crucial. Raze or recapture Sylvania until the vampire lords are no more.
While conquering Sylvania, try to improve relations with the Dwarves, Bretonnia and the rest of the Empire until they’re ready for confederacy or military alliance.
Keep two or three cheap stacks of spears and crossbows to serve as defenders while elite armies handle offensive duties.
Army and Battle Tips
Army compositions mostly have to rely on what enemies decide to pick a fight with the Empire. Just keep in mind that several rows of Hellstorm launchers and Steam Tanks often solve problems with great efficiency regardless of what faction they’re shooting at.
However, be mindful of what enemies are most worrisome about each potential enemy faction. Greenskins and Vampires tend to bring armored infantry supported by cavalry, so it’s best to bring more spears, halberds and handguns. On the other hand, Skaven and other Imperial armies are weak against artillery and magic.
