  • Guendouzi says that he will remain a Gunner by heart even if he is bound to join another club
  • Guendouzi is bothered by Arsenal's lackluster run last season
  • His next stop will depend on the discussions with his own managing team

Matteo Guendouzi has had a rough-and-tumble football career although the word going around is that the French midfielder is bound for Olympique de Marseille.

Should that deal push through, he would be reunited with another former Gunner in William Saliba.

With a return to North London unlikely, Guendouzi stressed that he will remain a Gunner despite the fact that things did not work out under the watch of Mikel Arteta.

"I am a Gunner from the bottom of my heart and will remain so, no matter what," Guendouzi quipped.

However, he is left befuddled on the fortunes of Arsenal, expressing his worry about its lackluster campaign across all competitions.

Arsenal finished eighth in the English Premier League standings last season and got only as far as the semi-finals in the Europa League.

It was a miserable season for the Gunners although the club is seemingly not prepping for a better campaign in the English top-flight next term.

Despite failing to get along with Arteta, the French midfielder admitted that he is hurt by the recent developments, Bild reported.

"Arsenal must return to where it belongs. I don't know the reasons for the failure because I wasn't there last season. But I'm concerned about the club's situation because Arsenal deserves great things,” said Guenoudiz, who spent the last term on loan to Hertha Berlin.

For now, he is focused on recovering and bares that he will decide together with his father and advisers on what direction they will be headed.

"Right now I'm 100% focused on my recovery. In due time, I will decide with my advisors and my father which direction we are going," he explained.

It was last year when Guendouzi drew flak for his actions in a game against Brighton. He clashed with Neal Maupay, something that did not sit well with Arteta.

As result, Guendouzi was kept in cold storage before being enlisted by Hertha Berline on loan.
