  • Barcelona is eyeing Manchester United's Edinson Cavani to alleviate the loss of Sergio Aguero
  • Memphis Depay has been very much alone in the striking group for the Blaugrana
  • They are also planning to make a move for Arsenal's Aubameyang

Barcelona is in need of a striker, and the Blaugranas are planning to make a big splash in the January transfer window as they are planning to pursue Manchester United’s Edinson Cavani.

According to a report from Spanish outlet El Nacional, the loss of Sergio Aguero for the next three months will be hard on a striking group that is now solely headed by Memphis Depay and backed up only by veteran Luuk de Jong.

Joining Aguero on the sidelined list is Martin Braithwaite and Ousmane Dembele, with the former set to return in January after having knee surgery in mid-September and Dembele re-aggravated his hamstring in early October.

The club announced early this week that Aguero will be out for the next three months after doctors revealed that he will be treated for a heart ailment following a cardiac exam after he felt chest pains in the draw against Alaves.

Cavani recently found himself be the main man for Manchester United after his number was called upon to start against the Tottenham Hotspurs.

The “King of Uruguay” had been on a scoring drought prior to the match, but he finally ended it after Cristiano Ronaldo found him for a through ball and his first goal in quite some time.

However, Cavani’s spot on the roster is not assured after appearing in just five games for Manchester United, including the fact that they have depth in the striking position with Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood also on the team.

A move to Barcelona would be surprising since he figures to play a matchup-based role at Old Trafford.

In the same report, Barcelona is also believed to be targeting Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the January window.

Depay has been having some trouble holding down the fort as he has scored two goals in the past five matches but without much help from anyone else in the front.

Barcelona is currently middling in the ninth spot after winning four games, losing three, and pulling off draws in four matches.

Pulling off a move for either Cavani and Aubameyang will help relieve pressure from Depay’s shoulders, allowing him to be more focused on scoring goals and creating opportunities for his potential running mate.
