  • PSG marks goalie Illan Meslier as its next target
  • Meslier is seen as a shot-stopper who holds tremendous potential
  • The Frenchman prefers to focus on playing for now

Leeds United had a good run in the English Premier League, and that is credited to several players on the roster.

The names of Patrick Bamford, Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha have stood out, but someone who has been constantly overlooked is probably goalkeeper Illan Meslier.

The 22-year-old joined the Whites on a £5 million deal last summer following an impressive stint via loan.

At such a young age, there is no question that the French goalkeeper has a bright future ahead.

As far as Leeds United is concerned, there is reason to worry about moving forward.

Settling for that amount, Meslier will be a target by several teams moving forward. This early, it appears Paris Saint-Germain is already keeping tabs with the shot-stopper and may be waiting to pull the transfer trigger.

According to Mesler’s agent Yvon Pouliquen, PSG could swoop in after one more season.

This largely hinges on how the goalie will perform for the Whites next season. Pouliquen made the statement when he spoke to Le Telegramme.

“PSG is watching, but Illan’s goal is to play, especially at his age. He has just had his first season in the Premier League, he will have to confirm [his level] in the second,” the agent stated.

While that is a big development on the part of Meslier, he prefers to focus on helping Leeds United for now.

Meslier just wants to play, and money does not appear to be a primary subject for now.

But heading into next season, there is no question that the French goalkeeper may have gotten extra motivation fending off goal attempts from opposing teams.

Improvements are needed, and Meslier has shown some of that. He has not been spared from odd mistakes such as playing out from the back.

Former England international goalkeeper Rob Green hails Meslier for being brilliant inside the penalty box but knows there is plenty of room for improvement on the Frenchman's part when the football legend spoke to The Yorkshire Post.

“It will be interesting to see how he does when crowds come back. But again, playing in goal and in such a way where you are at the extreme all the time, you are prone to playing errors,” Green stated. “As Luke Ayling said to me: ‘If he was English, everyone would be raving about him.’ He is an amazing kid and only 21.”
