Transfer Rumors: Man United To Bid For Cavani's Uruguay Co-Star 'In The Next Few Days'
KEY POINTS
- Manchester United is expected to make an offer for Nicolas De La Cruz
- Edinson Cavani may have been able to convince the Red Devils to pursue De La Cruz
- The Premier League club is also set to meet with Eduardo Camavinga
Manchester United could be all set to make a stunning offer for a Uruguayan midfielder.
A host of big-name strikers and midfielders are currently being linked to a move to Manchester United.
While Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho seemingly remains a priority, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side is also said to be tailing a few notable potential signings such as Rennes’ Eduardo Camavinga and West Ham United’s Declan Rice.
However, Red Devils’ veteran striker Edinson Cavani may have just come up with a new solution.
The Uruguayan star has urged Manchester United to pursue his national team co-star Nicolás De La Cruz, TNT reported.
The said transfer recommendation may have already progressed as the report noted that Manchester United is among the clubs expected to launch an official bid for De La Cruz “in the next few days.”
Aside from the Red Devils, Italian outfit Fiorentina is also likely to make an offer for De La Cruz, who has been impressive in both club football and Copa America, the report added.
The 24-year-old has been valued around the region of €20 million ($24 million), a figure which makes him a cheaper alternative to other Manchester United targets Camavinga and Rice.
Despite being a bit short in height, De La Cruz is still an outstanding midfielder, having been notable for his nippy footwork and ball control.
Apart from De La Cruz, Manchester United is also set to discuss the possible transfer of Camavinga.
The Red Devils will meet Camavinga’s representatives “next week” in the hopes to lure the youngster to move to Old Trafford, according to French journalist and RMC Sport’s Mohamed Bouhafsi.
“Manchester United has officially expressed interest in [Camavinga],” Bouhafsi tweeted. “Man United will even meet his entourage next week to convince him to join United. PSG remains the priority of the player. He would like to stay in France. Free in June 2022.”
Manchester United boss Solskjaer, on the other hand, recently expressed his dissatisfaction in finishing second in the past season.
Reports suggest that Solskjaer’s comments about the matter imply that the Red Devils will be all-in in adding reinforcements this summer.
"You can’t say that is an achievement," Solskjaer told reporters when asked about the merits of finishing second this season. "Our ambition is a lot more than second place. I said that when I wasn’t at the club – you can never be happy with that and we’re not.”
"Don’t get me wrong, our ambition is to catch the team in front of us."
