  • Napoli is waiting for formal offers for Kalidou Koulibaly
  • Sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli said the club is not in a rush for a new deal for Koulibaly
  • Manchester City remains the favorite to land Koulibaly

Kalidou Koulibaly is widely speculated to be moving out of S.S.C. Napoli. The only problem is that no team has made a formal offer for the services of the 29-year-old defender.

Sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli recently revealed that no club has come forward with a new formal offer for Koulibaly. But he explained that they are taking their time when it comes to sealing a deal for the Senegal defender.

"At this moment, we haven’t received any offers," the director told DAZN (via Goal.com).

"Koulibaly had important offers in the past and a great deal of interest, but we are in no rush to make decisions," he added.

Koulibaly has three years left in his current deal at Napoli. The Senegal player is not too keen on a move out of San Paolo Stadium, with the 29-year-old player previously telling La Gazzetta dello Sport that he "wouldn't say no" to ending his career with Napoli. But that decision may not be up to him.

There are several teams interested in adding Koulibaly. Among the teams linked to the defender are Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool and Barcelona. But the club that is believed to be in the lead is City, with Koulibaly reportedly eager to play under Pep Guardiola.

With no deals currently on the table, Napoli is in no rush to deal away Koulibaly. A possible reason behind the absence of any offers is the asking price for the 29-year-old player.

As previously reported, Napoli originally wanted $100 million for Koulibaly, which critics felt was too much. The club lowered that asking fee to $81 million, but none of the allegedly interested clubs reacted to it. Teams may be trying to make room first before adding new players like Koulibaly.

Like in the case of City, there are at least two players who are being given a chance. John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi were given chances to show their wares. Unfortunately, their efforts are believed to have failed to impress Guardiola, a reason why adding Koulibaly makes sense.

For Koulibaly, all he can do now is try harder and focus. He admitted that transfer talks have distracted him but is aware that his future is no longer in his hands.

Napoli will take on Inter and Lazio as it wraps up its Serie A assignments. After that, the club will focus on the Champions League where it is in a tie with Barcelona.
