  • Mesut Ozil's Arsenal exit may happen soon
  • Ozil is looking forward to playing for Fenerbahce
  • It seems that the player will have to sacrifice his standard pay to play football once more

Mesut Ozil is eager to return to the field although the German knows he needs to move to do so.

With his fortunes at the Emirates Stadium not improving with each passing day, the 32-year-old will need to transfer to a different team to continue playing.

Based on recent updates, it appears that the team will be Fenerbahce. Negotiations between the Turkish club and the German player’s camp have been going on for days, and it appears something will go down soon.

According to Fenerbahce sporting director Emre Belozoglu, it does not get any closer than this–referring to Ozil contract talks. He admits that things have not been easy but knows it will all be worth it, Sky Sports reported.

"We had a meeting with him and his agent. It's happening slowly, but Mesut is closer than ever to Fenerbahce. The fact that Mesut's childhood dream is still alive and Fenerbahce has such a dream has made this step so close for the first time,” he said.

The Fener manager knows that should they succeed in negotiations, but more work needs to be done. They need to hold their internal negotiations and crunch numbers.

Regardless, Belozoglu believes they have the financial resources to afford Ozil but admitted they have to be very careful.

"Fenerbahce, or any club for this matter, can't afford to pay salaries of four to five million euros to football players anymore. There's no way we would pay amounts that would upset balances within Fenerbahce or affect other players' salaries; we can't afford that," the former Newcastle player stated.

Ozil has accepted the fact that he needs to choose between money and playing. Being left out of Arsenal’s Premier League and Europa League squads, he is now willing to give up some money to secure a move away from North London, The Athletic reported.

Joining Fenerbahce or even DC United appears to be the plausible way to go for the German defender who has yet to see action this season.

But it seems there is a mutual interest to join Efsane with Ozil stating on Twitter that he grew up as a Fenerbahce fan, adding that it would be a dream fulfilled for him to play with the Turkish team.

"I grew up as a Fenerbahce fan as a kid in Germany-every German-Turkish person supports a Turkish team when they grow up in Germany,” Ozil stated. "And mine was Fenerbahce. Fenerbahce is like Real Madrid in Spain, the biggest club in my country."
