Transfer Rumors: Sky Blues Ready If Portuguese Midfielder Decides To Leave Etihad Stadium

For now, Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola claims that midfielder Bernardo Silva is happy at the Etihad Stadium.

However, he is aware that it may come to a point where the Portuguese player could opt to leave the team even though the 27-year-old has four years left in his current contract with the Citizens.

Silva was linked to a possible transfer in the last window, stemming from the arrival of Jack Grealish.

With the 26-year-old midfielder joining the Sky Blues, Silva could see his first-team opportunities getting limited this season.

That has not happened so far for Silva. Guardiola has used the Portuguese in giving of Manchester City’s Premier League games.

Just recently, Silva performed well alongside Rodri when the Sky Blues conquered Chelsea on Saturday.

Given the sterling showing of Silva, Guardiola hardly has qualms. He just wants the Portuguese player to be happy, Sky Sports reported.

"He's so intuitive--it's not his role as a holding midfielder but he knows exactly how to play it and how to anticipate what is going to happen, with the ball or without the ball,” Guardiola stated. "But how well he played against Chelsea is no surprise. How many times have we seen it? He was an incredible signing for us because he's an exceptional person."

There is no question that Silva is a gem that Manchester City cannot afford to lose. He was an integral part of the team’s English Premier League title run last season, the third for the Portuguese national.

In all, Silva has scored 36 times and made 44 assists in 208 appearances since he arriving from AS Monaco in 2017.

"If, at the end, he wants to leave and decides [to go] the only thing I can say is that the guy or the club that gets Bernardo is going to take one of the best players in the world,” Guardiola said.
