  • Tottenham is nearing a deal to acquire Pape Sarr from FC Metz
  • Sarr is getting a six-year deal from the Spurs but he will stay with the Metz on loan
  • The Spurs will likely field Sarr next summer after his Metz loan spell

Tottenham is looking for help, and it appears they are nearing the acquisition of another one soon.

Reports allege that the Spurs are closing on Pape Matar Sarr of the FC Metz although there is a twist.

The deal is said to be higher than the £8 million ($10.93 million) that was originally suggested per reports.

Also, it is worth noting that there is a twist to the deal. Should it be closed, the Hotspur will only acquire the rights of the Senegal midfielder, which in return will allow him to stay one season with Les Grenats on loan.

The ploy seems ingenious, allowing Sarr to further hone his skills with Metz. But by next summer, he would move to Tottenham with a riper skill set.

So far, Sarr has made only 28 first-team appearances for the Ligue 1 outfit. He has started in all of the team’s three games this season.

Against Reims on Sunday, the Senegal footballer registered an assist.

Hence, allowing Sarr to stay for one more season with Metz makes a bit of sense. Tottenham had already acquired Cristian Romero and Pierluigi Gollini this season, and the Spurs appear to have a complete roster.

Leaving Sarr with the FC Metz allows him to get ample playing time with the Spurs monitoring his progress.

He is seen as someone oozing with potential, a player who loves to get on the ball and take other players on.

Although he has not yet shown it, Sarr has the potential to contribute goals once the opportunities arise.

The Senegal player is seen as an investment for Tottenham’s future, possibly a key pawn for the Spurs who want to make sure their middle ranks are properly covered.

According to Sky Sports, the deal for Sarr will be a six-year lease.

Sarr signed a five-year deal from Generation Foot in September 2020 and has been with the Metz for less than a year.

In the same report, there were allegedly several other teams also interested in Sarr. However, Tottenham appears to have gotten the lead over the rest.
