Day one of New York Fashion Week 2016 closed Thursday night with a heartwarming fashion show and positive message. Macy's and the American Heart Association's Go Red For Women Red Dress Collection presented their biannual show at Manhattan's Moynihan Station to raise awareness for heart disease and stroke.

The goal of Go Red For Women is to encourage women to lead healthier lives and become informed about the disease. Macy's and the American Heart Association recruited over 20 celebrities to model gorgeous red gowns by womenswear designers to help spread the message. Each "model" walked the runway to a different song, and a few had a little fun on the catwalk by singing and dancing their way down the stage.

Former "Dancing With the Stars" contestant Alexa PenaVega kicked the fashion show off modeling a dress designed by Gustavo Cadile. Before reaching the end of the runway, PenaVega ran over to her husband, Carlos PenaVega, to give him a hug and kiss.

"Fuller House" star Candace Cameron-Bure, wearing a gown by Badgley Mischka, was also one of the many celebrities walking in Go Red For Women and hit the dab (a new hip-hop dance craze) at the end of the runway. Ballet dancer Misty Copeland dazzled the crowd with a few spins in her David Meister gown, while "The Nanny" star Fran Drescher danced up and down the runway.

Miss Universe 2015 winner Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach left her crown at home for the event but wowed in a gown designed by Carmen Marc Valvo.

Other celebrities to walk the runway included Olivia Culpo, "Empire" stars Serayah and Ta'Rhonda Jones, "Today" show host Tamron Hall, "The Brady Brunch" actress Florence Henderson, model Sofia Richie, "Top Chef" star Gail Simmons, transgender actress and internet personality Gigi Gorgeous, "Nashville" stars Lennon and Maisy Stella, WNBA star Skylar Diggins, singer Debbie Gibson, vine star Lele Pons, style and beauty expert Mary Alice Stephenson, "Taxi" actress Marilu Henner and "All For Love" singer Madison Beer.

Singer Monica closed the fashion show with a performance of Anne Lennox and Al Green’s “Put A Little Love In Your Heart." Check out photos from Go Red For Women's NYFW show below.
