‘True Detective’ Season 2 Spoilers: Taylor Kitsch Confirmed To Star In HBO Series; Theories On Who The Fourth And Final Female Lead Will Be
Three mysteries solved, one more to go. It was recently confirmed Taylor Kitsch would be one of the four actors starring in Season 2 of the critically acclaimed HBO series, “True Detective.” The actor, best known for his portrayal of Tim Riggins on NBC’s “Friday Night Lights,” reportedly will portray the role of Paul Woodrugh. Paul has been described as a young, handsome veteran who turns out to be quite damaged as the storyline unfolds.
During an interview with AdWeek, the Canadian performer revealed his excitement about appearing in the Emmy Award-winning drama. “[I] can’t f---ing wait to hit camera,” the anxious actor admitted. According to reports, “True Detective” will begin filming the new season, set in California, next month.
“I’m really excited,” Kitsch continued. “I’ve just been prepping … it was tough to sit a year out, keeping a finger crossed that I was going to get ‘True.’ It was just a showing a lot of patience on my end and turning a lot of stuff down because I wanted to be a part of it. So, I’m excited. I loved that first season of it so much. It’s just unlike anything I’ve seen in, you know, I don’t know when. And it was so grounded. It could really happen.”
Kitsch teased Season 2 of “True Detective” will have a very similar feel to the first installment. “It makes it more relatable. It makes these guys more real,” Kitsch said.
The 33-year-old actor is the third lead from Nic Pizzolatto’s drama to be revealed. Prior to his announcement, Colin Farrell, 38, and Vince Vaughn, 44, were confirmed to star in Season 2 of the crime drama with Justin Lin directing the first two episodes of Season 2 (which will have 8 episodes total).
So now that the male leads have been cast, what actress will be taking on the role of the female lead? Variety reported Rachel McAdams, 35, is close to locking down a deal with HBO to portray the Season 2 character Sheriff Ani Bezzerides. According to Vanity Fair, Ani is a Monterey sheriff with a troubled past and a pretty serious drinking/gambling problem.
And while McAdams is currently a front-runner for starring in “True Detective,” she hasn’t been the only name thrown around. According to reports, Hollywood stars such as Jessica Biel, 32, and Malin Ackerman, 36, have also been considered for the part, as well as "Mad Men" actress Elisabeth Moss, 32, who shed some light on what it’s been like being correlated with the anthology mini-series.
"It’s hard to get sick of something that’s super-flattering,” Moss said at Gotham magazine’s fall issue party. “But they are just rumors. Everyone else knows more about it than I do, apparently! But it’s nice to have your name mentioned for anything, especially something so good.”
