Jim Carrey's stint as Joe Biden on "Saturday Night Live" fell short of expectations for some viewers, who called for him to be replaced on social media.
"Saturday Night Live’s" Oct. 10 cold open sketch focused on the vice-presidential debate. Carrey and Maya Rudolph impersonated Biden and Sen. Kamala Harris, respectively, while Beck Bennett played Vice President Mike Pence. In the latest episode, Carrey's Biden made a special appearance as the fly that landed on Pence’s head during the debate.
However, some Twitter users were not happy with Carrey's performance as the Democratic presidential nominee, with one writing, "I hate Jim Carrey as Joe Biden. He doesn’t even try to impersonate him."
"jim carrey’s impersonation of joe biden in 'SNL' is horrible i couldn’t watch till the end lol," one wrote.
"Me every week 'Oh SNL should be good' *Jim Carrey gets transformed into a fly playing Joe Biden turning into Jeff Goldblum* 'Alright let me go somewhere else,'" @Brentweets tweeted.
"Wish you would recast Joe Biden’s role. Not a fan of Jim Carrey in the least - he doesn’t capture him like Jason Sudeikis did - he is just Jim Carrey with white hair and his regular rubbery facial gestures," another user commented.
Some suggested that Carrey does a great Bill Clinton impersonation but doesn't seem to be as effective when playing Biden. Another Twitter user said that while they love Carrey, they prefer Woody Harrelson's version of Biden.
One netizen, who praised Rudolph's Harris impersonation, suggested that Jason Sudeikis was better when it comes to portraying the presidential candidate.
Despite the criticism, there were also some who were happy to see Carrey on "SNL," with one person commenting that the actor made a great Biden.
"i’m so happy jim carrey joined snl to play joe biden lol," a Twitter user wrote.
Another user approved of Carrey playing Biden, noting that the actor was the most animated comedian.
Carrey's portrayal of Biden has also received positive reviews from publications, with Entertainment Weekly's Heather Gardner writing, "You would have never known it was Carrey’s first time playing Biden as he nailed every aspect of the politician, even down to his toothy grin!"
