  • Others criticized the duke over his statement, saying his words aren't helping anyone

Prince Harry impressed social media users after he stood up for his wife Meghan Markle and seemingly confirmed that the royal family and U.K. media tried to smear her earlier this year.

In the final episode of "The Me You Can't See," the docuseries he co-produced with Oprah Winfrey for Apple TV+, the Duke of Sussex said that before their bombshell CBS interview aired in March, he woke up to find his wife weeping "because of the headlines and that combined effort of the firm and the media to smear her."

"That's heartbreaking," Prince Harry said in the docuseries. "I held her. We talked. She cried, and she cried, and she cried."

Twitter users were surprised that he mentioned the involvement of the firm in the alleged smear campaign against Markle but praised him for standing up for and supporting the duchess.

"This breaks my heart. But what stands out to me is he says the FIRM & the media were smearing Meghan. We have said the FIRM were involved in attacking her all along. Thank goodness she has a strong man like Harry who loves & protects her. They are a team. Praying for strength for them," one person commented.

"A man that don’t play about his wife. I love how hard Prince Harry goes for Meghan," a second user wrote.

"imagine someone loving you as much as prince harry loves meghan," a third user added.

"Pretty incredible seeing Harry speak his truth like this. I love it for him. Hopefully he and Meghan can actually find peace," another commented.

However, others criticized Prince Harry, claiming his statements are not helping anyone.

"Prince Harry says his mother was 'chased to death while in a relationship with someone who wasn't white' and feared 'history repeating itself' with wife Meghan. and your killing your grandmother and your families love by betraying with lies mental Health is getting healingurnot," one wrote.

"To my dear Harry and Meghan, I truly love you both and appreciate and totally respect why Harry you want to protect Meghan and Archie, but please stop fuelling the fire by dishing the dirt. Live your life my lovelies, trust me, airing it doesn’t help anyone," a second user commented

"My HATE for Harry & Meghan has reached 100% so this is the last time i will acknowledge these 2 matter or even exist in this world. Everything they say is just me, me, me, they did this and that! The toxicity they must have in their home reached the critical-danger level," a third user added.

"When did Prince Harry decide to become a Kardashian?" Lavern Spicer wrote, referencing Prince Harry's recent outburst.

When he spoke about a smear campaign, Prince Harry was referencing stories published in the U.K.'s The Times in the days leading up to the March 7 airing of their interview with Winfrey, according to BuzzFeed News. One report published by the Times on March 2 alleged that Markle bullied her staff and that the couple's communications secretary had made a formal complaint to the royal household's human resources department.

Buckingham Palace had issued a statement saying it was "very concerned about allegations" mentioned in the report. The palace also announced that it will launch an investigation into "the circumstances outlined in the article."

"The Me You Can't See" is now streaming on Apple TV+.
