  • Harry's comments received mixed responses online, with some saying he was jealous of his brother

Prince Harry's comments about the alleged difference in his and his older brother Prince William's treatment received criticism from some royal fans.

While seemingly addressing the way the palace handled stories in the media about his older brother versus him, Prince Harry claimed that he and his wife Meghan Markle were treated differently than Prince William, the heir to the British throne.

"They are happy to lie to protect my brother," Prince Harry claimed in a new promo for the second part of their Netflix docuseries "Harry & Meghan," as footage of Buckingham Palace flashes on the screen.

The Duke of Sussex went on to claim that he and Markle were the victims of "institutional gaslighting" and that "they were never willing to tell the truth to protect us."

Prince Harry was immediately slammed on social media over his comments, with some claiming that he was "jealous" of the Prince of Wales.

"Oh the jealousy is palpable," one Twitter user commented.

"Harry is really something special. He wants to sell his soul to the media for money, that's on him, but to drag his family, particularly his brother, who lost his mother as well? Envy has no bounds," another person claimed.

"Their story is forever changing. They wanted to be half in and half out. They didn't want to be OUT completely. They tried to strong-arm the late Queen, but it didn't work and backfired UNIMAGINABLY. Harry thought he had taxpayer-funded protection for LIFE. He was wrong," a third user commented.

"Wow! He's so jealous of his brother, he can't hide it anymore. Poor Diana, if she were here, she would kick [Meghan] out by herself," another wrote.

Others backed Prince Harry, claiming that they also noticed the difference in the treatment of the two royal brothers.

"We all knew it, but still, [fire emoji] him saying it out loud," one person tweeted.

"I salute their courage. They saw the clear intent when Charles took away protection from his son and exposed the first-ever biracial member of the family and his grandson to public and grave threats. Now, he has set his coronation on the same grandson's birthday," another wrote.

A third user tweeted multiple fire emojis to express support for Prince Harry.

"If the tabloids had left them alone, we wouldn't need to hear any interviews or watch any docuseries. Maybe you should focus on the smear campaign that has been targeting them and resulting in them putting out their side of things. The tabloids need to do better," a Sussex supporter wrote.

Some expressed concern that Prince Harry and Markle's docuseries will widen the rumored rift between them and the royal family.

"The saddest thing in all of this is that family relationships are being/have been ripped apart, mocked from all sides and abused, and people look on gleefully as if it's a soap. I'm referring to all sides. I would hope that all can find a middle ground and some peace," one Twitter user said.

The first three episodes of Prince Harry and Markle's docuseries debuted on Netflix on Dec. 8. Three more episodes will be dropped Thursday.
