  • Prince Harry claimed in his docuseries that most royal men feel an "urge to marry someone who fits the mold"
  • TV host Mark Dolan suggested that Harry's comment was "a sly dig" at his brother Prince William
  • Dolan said William's wife Kate Middleton fits the mold of "a dignified woman"

Prince Harry may have been taking a dig at his older brother Prince William and sister-in-law Kate Middleton while discussing how men in the royal family look for partners in his and Meghan Markle's new Netflix docuseries, a TV host has claimed.

In the first volume of "Harry & Meghan," which premiered Thursday, the Duke of Sussex claimed that many in the royal family, especially the men, feel "an urge to marry someone who fits the mold, as opposed to someone who perhaps you may be destined to be with."

He then said that his own journey to find love wasn't as traditional, suggesting that he followed his "heart" when he married Markle, an American actress and divorcee.

English comedian, writer and host Mark Dolan appeared to take issue with Prince Harry's comments, suggesting in his GB News show "Mark Dolan Tonight" that the Duke of Sussex may have been taking a jab at the Prince and Princess of Wales.

"In this latest documentary series, [Harry] made a sly dig at his brother William by implying that his wife Kate fits some kind of mold, that she ticks boxes or something. God knows what he was actually saying, but he may have a point," Dolan said.

He went on to praise Middleton, adding: "If Kate is in a mold, she's in a mold of a nice wife who gets on with her husband's family. Is that too much to ask? We've all got to make it work with the in-laws, don't we? It's not always easy. It's my view that Kate is in the mold of a dignified woman, who is humbly fulfilling her role as wife, mother and Princess of Wales, representing her family and serving the nation."

The TV host then claimed that Prince Harry "seems to go for partners who indeed do not fit the mold."

Dolan initially praised Markle as a "stunningly beautiful, intelligent and charismatic woman," noting that many believed she was the next Princess Diana when she married into the British royal family. However, the host claimed that the former actress turned out to be "a self-absorbed narcissist living in a parallel universe with her own version of the truth."

He cited Markle's claim during her 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey that she and Prince Harry secretly got married three days before their lavish royal wedding. After her claim was disputed by multiple outlets, citing their marriage certificate document, a spokesperson for the couple later admitted to The Daily Beast that Markle and Prince Harry were not married three days before their official ceremony.

Dolan also claimed that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex both "do not do family."

The Sussexes are rumored to have had a strained relationship with the royal family since stepping back from their roles as working royals in 2020. Markle has been estranged from her father and his side of the family since her wedding to Prince Harry in 2018 as well.

Markle's estranged half-siblings have also criticized the first three episodes of her new docuseries.

Her half-brother Thomas Markle Jr. described the content of the series as "horrible" and "disturbing," taking issue with Prince Harry's statement that his wife no longer has a father after she married into the royal family.

"The documentary is so far off on so many different levels, it's really a little bit disturbing," Thomas Jr. claimed.

"Saying that she doesn't have a family and she doesn't have a father, and Harry saying that she has no father now, that's just ridiculous," he continued. "She just basically brushed the entire family under the carpet like we don't exist, and then lied about not having a family."

The second part of "Harry & Meghan" will be released on Netflix Thursday.
