KEY POINTS

  • Two title fights are slated to headline ONE 157 on May 20
  • Petchmorakot and Prajanchai return to defend their respective titles
  • Several more bouts are confirmed for the upcoming live event

While the attention is on the kick-off round of the first-ever ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Grand Prix and the two submission grappling jousts on its upcoming card, the Singapore-based outfit has given combat sports fans another valid reason to tune in on May 20 by booking two noteworthy matches from its “Super Series” all-striking arm.

Muay Thai luminary Petchmorakot Petchyindee Academy will put his coveted featherweight championship on the line in the main event of ONE 157 against promotional newcomer Jimmy Vienot.

Petchmorakot needs no introduction in both the Muay Thai and kickboxing worlds as he has shared the stage with strikers revered by aficionados across the globe, including Liam Harrison, Giorgio Petrosyan and Yodsanklai Fairtex.

The 28-year-old Thai will be defending the belt that he won in a February 2020 encounter versus Pongsiri P.K. Saenchai Muay Thai Gym for the third time opposite a highly-touted Frenchman in the form of Vienot.

Winning gold is not new to Vienot, who has held numerous titles over the course of his 10-year professional career, including the Superkombat middleweight champion, the prestigious Lumipinee Stadium 160-pound crown, and the sought-after WBC Muay Thai belt.

Vienot looks to start his run in ONE Championship on a triumphant note by beating the legendary Petchmorakot.

Joining Petchmorakot and Veinot at ONE 157 is Prajanchai P.K. Saenchai Muay Thai Gym, who will stake his strawweight title against former title challenger Joseph Lasiri in the co-headliner.

Prajanchai, who captured the intricately-crafted hardware at the expense of Muay Thai icon Sam-A Gaiyanghadao in July 2021, aims to extend his reign as the division kingpin by putting down Lasiri.

On the other hand, Lasiri is coming off an emphatic victory over Asahi Shinagawa in December of last year, knocking out the Japanese fighter in the first round.

Apart from the aforementioned matchups, the organization has also confirmed several more bouts to complete the lineup for ONE 157.

Serbia’s Rade Opacic will battle Brazilian heavyweight kickboxer Guto Inocente, whereas Panpayak Jitmunagnon is penciled to figure in a ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Grand Prix alternate contest versus Josue Cruz.

Muay Thai heroine Nat “Wondergirl” Jaroonsak will make her mixed martial arts (MMA) debut opposite India’s Zeba Bano.

Meanwhile, Asha Roka returns to action by taking on American mixed martial artist Alyse Anderson in a three-round atomweight duel.

Grappling stud Marcus “Buchecha” Almeida eyes to stretch his undefeated MMA streak versus Hugo Cunha on the main card, while Indonesia’s Elipitua Siregar locks horns with Filipino combatant Robin Catalan.
