  • Ubisoft Connect merges the Uplay desktop app with the Ubisoft Club loyalty program
  • It introduces cross-play and cross-progression for Ubisoft members regardless of platform
  • XP can be gained while Units can be used to unlock various rewards for Ubisoft games

Ubisoft is streamlining its loyalty program and desktop app into one ecosystem of services dubbed as Ubisoft Connect.

Loyalty program Ubisoft Club and desktop app Uplay have now been merged into Ubisoft Connect, which is aimed at “giving the best environment for all players to enjoy their games and connect with each other’s whatever the device,” per the Ubisoft FAQ page.

While it is a free service, a Ubisoft account is required to gain Ubisoft Connect services including stats, leaderboard, and Smart Intel when applicable to the back catalog of Ubisoft games.

A Ubisoft Connect account can be accessed on console and streaming services in the form of PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Nintendo Switch, and Google Stadia through the game menu. Users need to download Ubisoft Connect to access it on PC while a mobile app is available for iOS and Android devices.

In an increasingly connected gaming universe, Ubisoft Connect introduces both cross-play and cross-progression in its games including “Assassin’s Creed Valhalla” and “Watch Dogs: Legion.”

Cross-play allows players to connect online and play with their friends regardless of what platform they use. In cross-progression, players are allowed to carry their saved data from one platform to another. By linking their Ubisoft account with any other account, progression will be retained for most Ubisoft titles.

The company said that since several of its back catalog of games are no longer patched and with references to the now-merged Uplay and Ubisoft Club, Ubisoft Connect services can still be accessed. Once started, however, players receive all the Rewards in those games although the challenge system has been deactivated.

Upon the launch of Ubisoft Connect on Oct. 29, a two-month period is given for the live games to transition for full system integration with the loyalty system while all new releases from launch, such as the upcoming “Watch Dogs: Legion” and “Immortals: Fenyx Rising,” will already have Ubisoft Connect.

Players who use the service will be able to earn Ubisoft Connect XP for playing games and completing in-game challenges, according to The Verge. The XP that is gained will not only allow players to raise the level of their Ubisoft Connect accounts, it will also award the secondary currency they have labeled as Units.

Units, in turn, can be used to unlock various rewards for different Ubisoft games. Players will also be able to check out what their friends with Ubisoft accounts are up to and compare performances in each game by consulting the leaderboards.
