NEW YORK - UBS AG hired a former Citigroup and Barclays Capital banker as managing director in its investment banking department in the Americas, as the Swiss company expects equity sales to increase in 2010.

William Ortner will join UBS as managing director in the equity capital markets division, where he will co-head structured equity capital markets for the Americas, UBS said in a statement on Monday.

Ortner, 42, will be based in New York and report to Mary Ann Deignan, head of equity capital markets for the Americas.

Most recently, Ortner headed structured finance at mutual fund advisor Structured Investment Management. Prior to that, he worked at Barclays Capital and Citigroup. (Reporting by Juan Lagorio; Editing by Lisa Von Ahn)
