The Armed Forces of Ukraine has successfully shot down an entire Russian military unit in one minute amid its counteroffensive operation on the eastern front, according to a soldier who survived the attack.

In a new video posted Sunday by the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU), a Russian soldier, whose identity was not revealed, said he was shocked by how Ukrainian forces destroyed his platoon in a minute. The soldier added that the attack led to the deaths of 20 of his comrades.

"We saw people armed normally, trained normally, every other person had a walkie-talkie, all of them had heaters, all of them had night vision sights," the soldier said in the video, describing the Ukrainian forces.

"They shot the whole platoon in 1 minute. 20 people died in 1 minute!"

The SSU noted that the soldier was part of a Russian platoon that arrived in the town of Millerovo near Russia's border with Ukraine on Sept. 13. He fought against Kyiv's army for 12 days before surrendering to Ukraine on Sept. 25.

The SSU's video comes as Kyiv continues to gain ground and push Russian forces back in a counteroffensive that began in late August. In the past week alone, about 776 square kilometers of territory in the eastern regions were recaptured from the Russians.

"This week alone, our soldiers liberated 776 square kilometers of territory in the east of our country and 29 settlements, including six in the Luhansk region," Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky said in an address posted on his Telegram channel Saturday.

Natalia Humeniuk, the spokesperson of Ukraine's southern military command, also noted that Ukraine is making progress in the southern Kherson region, with the army liberating a total of 1,170 square kilometers of territory since the start of the counter-offensive.

"Work is continuing on consolidation of territory, clearing it and conducting stabilising operations, as the settlements we enter contain many surprises left by the (Russian) occupiers," Humeniuk said on Ukrainian national television, as translated by Reuters.

In total, the Ukrainian army has liberated 2,434 square kilometers of land and 96 settlements from Russian occupation since late August.
