The Armed Forces of Ukraine has reportedly struck Russian ammunition depots in Ilovaisk (Donetsk Oblast) and Brylivka (Kherson Oblast), killing "majority" of Russian military personnel.
The Directorate for Strategic Communications reported the strike, posts on Telegram revealed. Ukraine's authorities said the ammunition depot in Ilovaisk was burned to the ground. Before striking the Ilovaisk facility, Kyiv's forces hit another Russian ammunition depot in Brylivka, Pravda reported.
Pivden [South] Operational Command also wrote on Facebook about the strikes. It said 36 Russian soldiers were killed and three Russian tanks, three Msta-B howitzers, a Zoopark-1 radar station, four armored vehicles and seven other vehicles were destroyed.
Seven airstrikes were conducted on Moscow's forces, which included targeting four Russian strongholds and three on concentrations of military personnel and equipment.
Britain’s defense minister Ben Wallace said Russia was failing in “many areas” in its war in Ukraine, hinting the Russian leader could make a strategy change soon.
“The Russians are failing at the moment on the ground in many areas … Putin’s plan A, B, and C has failed and he may look to plan D,” Wallace told Sky News television.
The offensive in Ukraine has intensified as the war entered its sixth month. Russian raids on the Ukrainian city of Mykolaiv near the country’s southern front line killed four people and wounded seven more, the regional governor said.
“Today, they shot at another area near a public transport stop. According to the latest information, four people are dead and seven are injured,” Vitaliy Kim said in a statement on social media, according to Al Jazeera.
Meanwhile, Russia’s defense ministry said Ukraine struck a prison in separatist-held territory with the U.S.-made HIMARS rockets, killing 40 Ukrainian prisoners of war and leaving 75 wounded, Russian news agencies reported.
“A missile strike from the US-made multiple launch rocket system (HIMARS) was carried out on a pre-trial detention center in the area of the settlement of Olenivka, where Ukrainian military prisoners of war, including fighters from the Azov battalion, are being held,” the defense ministry said in its daily briefing.
International Business Times could not independently verify the claims.
