A Ukraine commander has demanded that his sniper team be given the Atom Military electric motorbike so that the men can get their jobs done and leave quietly before the Russians find their position.
Mamuka Mamulashvili, commander of the Georgian Legion, told The Drive that they need the electric motorbike because "they have to go and leave fast." The Atom Military e-bikes are small, light, fast, and most importantly "whisper-quiet."
Mamulashvili added that his battalion needs a fast, quiet vehicle to get sniper teams to a location where they can fire off shots for about five to 10 minutes, then quickly get out before the Russians rain artillery down on their position.
According to the report, the e-bike is being manufactured by a company based in Ternopil in Ukraine. It has a top speed of 90 kph, can travel up to 150 km on one five-hour charge and can carry up to 150 kg. The bike is very durable for off-road conditions due to its suspension, brakes and wheels. These vehicles come with an optional USB for charging gadgets and a 220V socket so that additional heavy, bulky batteries aren’t needed.
The manufacturer claimed that some of these e-bikes are already with the Ukrainian troops and "managed to visit the hot spots, helping their owners successfully perform their tasks." No other details have been provided though there are speculations that these bikes are already in eastern Ukraine. The motorbikes cost about $4,200 per piece.
The e-bikes would be an asset in the battlegrounds as they can be used for reconnaissance missions. "The enemy cannot hear you even at close range," said Vanda, an executive of a private automobile firm, told The Drive.
According to him, the bikes can help in courier correspondence in areas where Russians use electronic warfare to jam signals. Not only can these bikes transport small cargo like medical aid, but they are also easily movable.
The bike is also said to be almost invisible to enemy drones as it has an electric engine and hence is less susceptible to Russian thermal imaging systems.
The evolution of electric vehicles and their new battery technology has prompted even the U.S. military to actively explore the use of this on many fronts.
