Unlimited Data Plans For Your Car? Chevy Introduces New Package For Its Vehicles
Every major cell phone carrier is offering unlimited cell phone plans each with their own perks like hotspots, and now a car company is joining the competition. Chevrolet is offering unlimited 4G LTE data in its vehicles with the help of AT&T.
The car maker announced Thursday that Chevy owners used more than 4 million gigabytes in 2016, enough data to stream 17.5 million hours of data, so they had decided to give owners the option for unlimited data moving forward. The unlimited prepaid plan will cost $20/month and drivers can begin signing up starting Friday.
“We have contractors bidding jobs in their Silverados, families streaming movies in their Suburbans and Malibus and everyone tapping into the cloud for music,” said Alan Batey, president of GM North America and global head of Chevrolet in a press release.
Chevy began offering OnStar 4G LTE connectivity in its vehicles in 2014 and has since sold 3.1 million connected vehicles. The OnStar basic plan comes standard in all new Chevy models and drivers can choose how much data allowance they want per month.
Chevy drivers can connect up to seven devices in the vehicle so everyone can connect their phones, laptops and tablets for streaming entertainment or an office on wheels. Chevy is the first car company to offer an unlimited plan for drivers.
