The video of former NBA guard Delonte West that went viral took a drastic turn as witnesses say that it was West who started the melee, which was not caught on camera that is making rounds on the internet.
A report from FOX5 Washington DC said that it was the ex-pro who initiated the conflict. “A witness told police that she saw the second man – the one in cuffs – strike the first man with a glass bottle. The second man retaliated, striking him several times,” the report said.
The video clip of a street fight blew the internet – with a half-naked man on the floor being mauled and stomped on the head by an unidentified man and was left at the side of the street.
The same article also said that Prince George’s County might face charges for allegedly recording a video of West, who is already handcuffed on the sidewalk of Oxon Hill Road. West and the other man aren’t fighting anymore when the authorities arrived on the location but one of them is already bleeding.
West’s college teammate Jameer Nelson posted on his Twitter a long statement about his feeling when he saw the video of his former pal, indicating that the 36-year old has been battling mental issues. “Mental Illness is something that a lot of people deal with and don’t even know it until sometimes it’s too late.”
“If you’re having mental, emotional or physical setbacks in life, you need to talk to somebody. And when I say talk to somebody, I mean, like a doctor or doctors. Not you, parents, homeboy, wife, cousins, etc.,” said Nelson, who played with West at Saint Joseph’s University.
West was drafted 24th overall in 2004 NBA Draft by the Boston Celtics and played nine seasons in the league. He played for the Celtics, Seattle Supersonics, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Dallas Mavericks before playing in China for two seasons. He attempted to make a comeback through Texas Legends in 2015 but was waived months after.
