'This Is Us' Season 6 Spoilers: Chrissy Metz On Kate Flash-Forward Mystery

Is Kate Pearson alive 10 years down the road on "This Is Us"? The character's portrayer, Chrissy Metz, is still wondering about her fate too.

During an interview with Us Weekly Wednesday, Metz teased whether or not Kate will finally appear in a flash-forward to the future in "This Is Us" Season 6.

"It's interesting. I have been on interviews where I have said something and then the story has changed and I was like, 'Oh, gosh.' So who knows?" the 41-year-old actress told the outlet while discussing her partnership with Capital One Auto Navigator.

She continued, "I know that I have different wigs for different times, but I don't know if they're gonna actually finalize me at a particular age or what's gonna happen. So I'm not sure because sometimes it's down to the wire. We're like, 'Ah, we're gonna change something.' But I can’t wait."

When asked whether she has already undergone the aging transformation, Metz also played coy.

"I would love to see Kate aged up or [in] prosthetics," she said. "Jon [Huertas] and Mandy [Moore] go through three-and-a-half hours of prosthetics, and I'm like, 'I wanna do that.' So we'll see. We'll see. I hope so."

In the episode "One Giant Leap," the Pearson family members appeared in a recurring flash-forward sequence in which Rebecca (Mandy Moore) is on her death bed. The family gathers at Kevin's (Justin Hartley) home to say their goodbyes to Rebecca.

Kate's ex-husband Toby (Chris Sullivan) is also there and has hinted that "they" are on their way, but it isn't clear if Kate is one of them as she has yet to be seen at that point in the future.

Fans have speculated that Kate may be dead in the flash-forward. While Metz didn't share any spoilers, she said the series will have a satisfying ending.

"I want [fans] to take away that we are all dealing with life on life's terms," she explained. "It's not really what happens to you but how you react to [it] and also that every single one of those characters are just like any person that you might know. I hope they pull away with contentment [and think], 'Wow. Like, I got to see this really beautiful chapter of these people's lives and it's a blueprint for the way I could walk in the world.'"

In December 2021, series creator Dan Fogelman also teased what fans can expect from the finale. According to him, it has a "simple ending" that should satisfy viewers and won't leave any questions unanswered.

"My hope is that by the end of the series, there is no stone left unturned," he told Entertainment Weekly. "You would have nothing left to ask me about spoilers. You might want to call me and say, 'I don't like what happened to such-and-such. I don't like who such-and-such wound up with.' But you won't be going, 'Who?' If we've done that, I feel like we've done our job, and we've made the choices that we thought were best for the characters and for the story."
