Usher Wins Charity Puppy for $12,000
R&B singer Usher recently dropped $12,000 on a puppy, in the name of charity.
The singer won his prize at the second annual Pencils of Promise Gala in New York on Thursday, outbidding out Gossip Girl star Jessica Szohr by $1,000 for the fuzzy, brown, goldendoodle puppy, the Daily Mail reports.
Goldendoodles are a cross between golden retrievers and poodles, and are known for the calm temperament as well as their minimally shedding coats.
Pencils of Promise is a non-profit organization endorsed by singer Justin Bieber that aids in providing education in third world countries.
The organizations mission on their website states, “Pencils of Promise believes every child should have access to quality education. We create schools, programs, and global communities around the common goal of education for all.”
All proceeds from the gala go to benefit the foundation.
Usher happily received his prize, adorned with a pink leash, and announced on Twitter that he may name the puppy, Poppy Raymond.
“However there are two gregarious three- and four-year-olds that will have the last say -- and the responsibility that comes with her,” Usher tweeted of his sons, Usher Raymond V and Naviyd Raymond.
Usher in turn auctioned off a private dance lesson during the charity gala.
Justin Bieber’s manager, Scooter Braun and his brother, founder of Pencils of Promise, Adam Braun, tied for the prize, both bidding $65,000. Each of their families will have private dance lessons with Usher.
The gala took place at Guastavino's in New York City.
