Valentine's Day 2016: 7 Of The Worst TV Couples That Remind Single People Why Being Alone Is Not So Bad
Valentine's Day can be a rough day for the single people of the world. While happy couples are out on the town, singles are often left alone Valentine’s night to keep themselves company in front of the TV. Luckily, there are so many terrible, horrible, no good, very couples on TV to serve as a reminder that being single is not all that bad.
Some pairs on this list are repeat offenders from last year's roundup. Others had to literally die — ahem, Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey on "Grey's Anatomy") — to avoid inclusion. Below is an updated list of seven TV couples that make fans feel a little better about being alone on Valentine’s Day (Warning: This article does contain mild spoilers!):
1. Rick Castle and Kate Beckett – “Castle”
Yes, "Caskett" makes the list! While there may have been a time, a rather long time, when all fans wanted was to see the sarcastic Castle (Nathan Fillion) and no-nonsense Beckett (Stana Katic) together. However, the couple's long awaited, and subsequently delayed, marriage was soon followed by a half-season long separation and an unnecessary return to the will they-won't they drama in Season 8. The writer and cop couple are back together now, but does anyone still care? Singles take note: sometimes relationships are more trouble than they are worth!
2. Stannis and Selyse Baratheon – “Game of Thrones”
Last year, Margaery (Natalie Dormer) and Tommen's (Dean Charles-Chapman) arranged, under age marriage was the worst relationship “Game of Thrones” had to offer, incest aside. However, by the time Stannis Baratheon (Stephen Dillane) and Selyse (Tara Fitzgerald) were watching their daughter (Kery Ingram) burn alive...on Stannis' orders...before Selyse herself threw herself on the burning pyre, these two had become the show's most dysfunctional duo. The two were barely speaking to each other by this point anyway — not the best argument for marriage.
3. Hawkman and Hawkgirl – “The Flash,” "Arrow" and "Legends of Tomorrow"
Yes, Hawkman, aka Carter Hall (Falk Hentschel), and Hawkgirl, aka Kendra Saunders (Ciara Renée), are fated lovers who find each other in every one of their infinite lifetimes — whatever. Hawkman's arrival robbed Cisco (Carlos Valdes) of his first romantic interest on "The Flash" and, for that, fans may never forgive this ancient couple. Plus, Hawkman man-splaining (or is it Hawk-splaining?) to Kendra how she needs to just accept her superhero alter-ego and all the Hawkman love that comes with it was not quite the romantic proposal fans would have wanted. Now, on "Legends of Tomorrow," the pair handle disagreements with hand-to-hand combat. How sweet!

4. Olivia Pope and Fitz Grant – “Scandal”
Olivia (Kerry Washington) and Fitz (Tony Goldwyn) were finally together after four seasons of waiting, but the Season 5 midseason finale saw the couple split once more. Fans would not mind seeing a certain U.S. President pass a law locking down "Olitz" for good, but until then, fans will continue to be left pretty frustrated. Plus, when all of America is watching, those quiet, romantic moments are hard to come by.
5. Marnie Michaels and Desi – “Girls”
Marnie (Allison Williams) and vomit-inducing guitarist Desi (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) made this list last year after making their relationship official. Now, if the promos for Season 5 are to be trusted, they are getting married. Doubling down on a bad relationship is not a good strategy. In fact, it makes the narcissistic duo one of TV's worst couples for the second year straight.

6. Rick and Unity – “Rick and Morty”
Here is the first cartoon couple to make the list. When Rick (Justin Roiland) first reunites with his hive-minded ex-girlfriend (Christina Hendricks) in "Auto Erotic Assimilation," the two (or however many people Unity may be) have a blast. However, soon it becomes clear that the chaotic couple brings out the worst in each other. After their subsequent break-up, a depressed Rick tries to kill himself with a laser beam — keep in mind this show is a comedy! On second thought, sad singles may want to just steer clear of that episode's heartbreaking ending altogether.

7. Spencer and Caleb – “Pretty Little Liars”
Most "Pretty Little Liars" fans are still on Team Haleb, aka Hanna (Ashley Benson) and Caleb (Tyler Blackburn). However, when the show returned for the second half of its sixth season with a five-year time jump, suddenly it was Spencer (Troian Bellisario) and Caleb getting hot and heavy. Spencer and Caleb are no disaster, but fans still prefer Caleb with Hanna. To make matters worse, Hanna is now engaged to some other random guy.
