KEY POINTS

  • "Valheim" is the hit survival game from Iron Gate
  • The game is available on Steam Early Access
  • Those who have progressed will respawn at the exact spot where they got killed

Whether players like it or not, they will die at some point while exploring the vast world of "Valheim." Interestingly, the game has its ways of punishing players for committing mistakes or doing certain actions while they are alive in the game.

In this guide, players could learn more about death, how it works and what happens to them when they die.

Understanding Death In "Valheim"

When players die in"Valheim," their body disappears in-game and becomes a gravestone. All the players' inventory, including equipped items and gear, are stored in this gravestone at the exact location where the players died. In terms of respawning, those who could not claim a bed will spawn at the starting area where the stones of power are found.

Those who have progressed in the game will respawn at the exact spot where they got killed in "Valheim." If players had claimed multiple beds when they died, the last bed they claimed is their respawn point. Also, the players' character incurs an XP penalty upon death. Unfortunately, those who died without acquiring any inventories will have no tombstone upon death.

Players get a 5% deduction to their current skill levels, which is substantial if players die too often. After the first death, players obtain the effect called No Skill Drain. This prevents any further loss of experience because of other deaths. This effect lasts for 600 seconds.

Several players complained about not being able to pick up their bodies. One explanation for this could be junk players picked up on their run back. To solve this issue, players just need to clear out their inventory and try again. Another reason is probably due to the Megingjord belt the player is using.

Dying In Water

Players are also wondering what happens when they die while in a body of water. Unlike when they die on land, the players' gravestone acts like a buoy and floats on the water's surface. This means those who are afraid that they will respawn at the bottom of the ocean have nothing to worry about. All their inventories will remain inside their gravestone too.
