KEY POINTS

  • Players must add "-console" to "Valheim's" launch options line at Steam
  • The "imacheater" command has been replaced with "devcommands"
  • All other console commands are unchanged

The latest update for “Valheim” has brought a list of bugfixes, networking changes and a few game balance tweaks. It has also removed access to the developer console via the F5 key, preventing players from using admin commands and cheats.

Access to the developer console can be restored, however. “Valheim” players who want to use console commands again will only have to follow these easy steps to regain access.

The two main changes to the “Valheim” developer console are that it is now disabled by default and that the command to enable cheats has been changed. The rest of the cheats and admin commands still work as before.

How to enable the console

To re-enable the console, go to Steam, then right-click on “Valheim.” Select the Properties tab and look for the Launch Options text box under the General tab. Type in “-console” on the text box without the quotation marks. Confirm the changes then boot up “Valheim” with the F5 key working the same as before.

How to enable cheats

In previous versions of the game, players would have to type “imacheater” at the dev console. Now, players will have to type “devcommands” before cheats and admin commands can work.

What’s new in “Valheim”

The latest patch introduced a number of gameplay tweaks that should improve some of the game’s rough edges.

For one, players will no longer be able to cheese certain bosses with campfires, bonfires and hearths. These objects will now take damage whenever they deal damage. If a player accidentally walks over a campfire, for example, the campfire’s durability will decrease.

Additionally, Harpoons will no longer be able to affect bosses and boss loot will no longer sink if they drop on water.

The battle axe now hits multiple enemies easier, and armor will now have a direct effect on the knockback force that players experience. Heavier armor will result in less knockback when hit by enemies, depending on the strength and force behind an enemy’s attack.

Iron Gate has also improved the game’s bandwidth handling that should improve the connectivity for players with slow internet connections.

“Valheim” developers have also noted that the delay in the patch’s release was due to an issue with Steam that has since been fixed. This may mean that Iron Gate will return to their weekly update schedule for gameplay tweaks and stability fixes.
