Do NOT mess with “The Vampire Diaries” fandom. Twitter is abuzz after star Nina Dobrev announced that she is officially exiting the hit CW series at the end of Season 6. She took to Instagram Monday night to break the news to her followers.

“I’ve just spend the most beautiful weekend on Lake Lanier in Georgia with my own ‘TVD’ family, the cast and crew of ‘The Vampire Diaries,’” Dobrev posted. “I want to be the first to tell you that it wasn’t just a holiday celebration. It was a goodbye story. I always knew I wanted Elena’s story to be a six season adventure, and with those six years I got the journey of a lifetime.”

Dobrev recapped some of her finest moments as Elena Gilbert on the show – from her time as a human doppelganger, to being killed, resurrected and “body-snatched.” And while she’s departing the series, she promised fans that there is “more to come before we wrap this up.”

“If you think you know what’s coming, you don’t,” she teased.

Fans aren’t focusing on the upcoming plot twists on “The Vampire Diaries” though – they’re obsessing over the fact that they’re losing one of their favorite stars and half of "Delena" (Damon and Elena).
