‘Vampire Diaries’ Season 6 Spoilers: EP Julie Plec Compares Damon And Bonnie Relationship To Klaroline
Is it Oct. 2 yet? “The Vampire Diaries” still has quite some time before its big return for Season 6 -- and that means that fans are in full speculation mode. So, what’s the big rumor circulating for the upcoming season? A potential relationship between Damon [Ian Somerhalder] and Bonnie [Kat Graham]!
The rumors of a Bamon (a loving fan nickname for Damon and Bonnie) relationship sprung up after “Vampire Diaries” executive producer Julie Plec made some comments about the fate of the two fan-favorite characters. Viewers will remember that the Season 5 finale concluded with Damon and Bonnie disappearing into a white light as “The Other Side” crumbled.
“You’ll see enough of them to make you happy and more as it goes along,” Plec told E! Online of Damon and Bonnie. “They are by no means going to be off the air for six episodes. The mystery is where are they, what happened, are they dead, not dead, and what the hell are they going to do together, those two of all people?”
Those who have read L.J. Smith’s “Vampire Diaries” books know that while Damon has a relationship with Elena, he also harbors strong secret feelings for her best friend, Bonnie. The pair has kissed in the books, but nothing serious has ever developed. The hit CW series is loosely based off of L.J. Smith’s novels, and “Vampire Diaries” lovers immediately began to speculate that the show could be drawing some inspiration from a few pages.
Julie Plec made sure to comment on the fan speculation while at San Diego Comic-Con.
“To me, in spite of what [Bonnie and Damon] had in the books, that kind of relationship would only be born out of chemistry, and on-screen connection,” Plec told E! Online. “Ian and Kat are super close. They love each other. They’re very excited to work together.”
So, does that mean that a romantic relationship could develop between the two characters? Julie Plec continued that it could definitely be possible -- especially since Klaroline (Caroline and Klaus) was never supposed to happen.
“There could be instant chemistry there that we all sit back and watch like we did, frankly, with Klaus and Caroline, with that very first scene,” the EP admitted. “There was never any plan to have romance but he cures her on her freaking birthday and all of a sudden, the world is melting. … So you never know, but what we did want to do is we wanted to service the Bamon relationship from the books and at least give those two characters an opportunity -- that we never thought we’d have frankly cause they never liked each other, and for good reason -- to bond and get close and to be comrades. So it will start there, and it may never go any further -- that’s not the plan, but you never know.”
