‘Vampire Diaries’ Season 6 Spoilers: Will Damon Make Elena Leave Mystic Falls? New Details On Nina Dobrev’s Season Finale Exit

Nina Dobrev’s grand exit from “The Vampire Diaries” Season 6 isn’t going to be simple. It seems that Elena’s (Dobrev) departure will be due to Damon’s (Ian Somerhalder) decision. Whether he lets Elena have the cure for vampirism remains to be seen, but his choice will affect his girlfriend's future in Mystic Falls. “The circumstances of her exit rest solely on Damon's shoulders,” TV Line reports.

Bonnie (Kat Graham) gave Damon the cure that could make Elena human in episode 17. Throughout episode 18, Elena was reminded of the future she was missing out on because she was a vampire. The pre-med student didn’t want to talk to Damon much about a future she couldn’t have, but their brief conversation made it clear to Damon that she misses humanity.

Executive producer Caroline Dries made it sound like Elena will be aware of his decision in the season finale, and she assured fans that there would be consequences. “We're building towards the outcome of Damon's decision [whether or not to give Elena the cure] and the massive fallout this decision will have on Elena, as well as on everyone else," Dries teased.

Damon’s choice could go either way. If he gives her the cure, she could decide to leave Mystic Falls and lead a normal life. If he doesn’t give her the cure and she discovers that he kept this secret, it could end their relationship on bad terms and cause Elena to leave town.

Whatever Damon decides, it may lead to a major fight that isn’t just between him and Elena. Actress Kat Graham teased audiences on VH1’s “Big Morning Buzz” about “a cool, epic battle in the season finale.” The “massive fallout” could be referring to that battle. If Damon’s mother Lily (Annie Wersching) or anyone else reveals to the wrong person that Damon is harboring the cure for vampirism, it could easily start a war – but we’ll have to wait until the May 14 finale to see if that’s true.
