'Vanderpump Rules' Star Scheana Shay Drama With Bravo Editor Explained
Like most reality shows, the drama from "Vanderpump Rules" has spilled over from on-screen to real life. Unlike most shows, though, the drama isn't between cast members -- it's between a cast member and a member of the production staff.
The drama all began when Bri Dellinger, an editor for the Bravo television show, was a guest on the "Twisted Plot Podcast" for since-deleted episodes 1 and 8 and spilled a little too much behind-the-scenes tea including details about intentionally trying to make Scheana Shay look bad.
"If Scheana knew what was good for her, she’d befriend me because my favorite game is finding all of the embarrassing things that Scheana does and putting them all in," Dellinger joked, according to Us Weekly. "… [The editors] joke that Scheana’s memoir will be Death By a Million Embarrassments."
The Bravo editor even provided an example from "Vanderpump Rules" Season 8, which is currently airing, of how they purposefully embarrassed the "Good as Gold" singer. Viewers will remember the cringe-worthy scene that made it seem like Scheana was trying to hit on her costar Stassi Schroeder's younger brother, Nikolai.
"It was so funny. We were watching the scene and were like, 'Okay, this is over the top, I realize that, but how can we resist?… Yes, I set it to funny music and I added a funny [sound] bite, but she did that," Dellinger admitted, according to Page Six.
"We asked [Scheana] in the interview, 'How young would you go?' and we didn’t tell her it was for the Nikolai scene, of course," she added.
Although Dellinger pretty much confirmed Scheana's claims that she gets a bad edit, she disagreed with the 35-year-old reality star's claim that editors don't show a lot of her life.
"I feel like she just has short-term memory because we’ve shown a lot of her story," Dellinger explained. "... I understand why she’s bitter in some ways. You know, we do poke fun at her, but she’s just so funny."
Scheana isn't just being a sore loser when it comes to the game of reality TV, though. One source shared that she was actually aware of the role editing had cast her in for the show but didn't realize it would be taken to the extreme.
"Scheana’s definitely frustrated with how she’s been portrayed," the insider said. "She’s not the type to pop off when she feels slighted by an unflattering edit. She signed on to be a part of a reality show, which requires her to share her life highs and lows; she just wishes audiences got to see a bit of a more balanced view of her life, not just the most cringe-worthy moments."
"She’s been assured by the network and production that she’s part of the charade," the insider added. "She’s going to be absolutely crushed by hearing that she’s actually the butt of the joke."
Before news broke about the juicy podcast conversation surrounding "Vanderpump Rules," Scheana sent a foreshadowing tweet about the bombshells.
"Hey [Andy Cohen] I have some tea for you ... check your DMs!" she wrote.
Coincidentally, just as with the "Twisted Plot Podcast" episodes, the tweet has been deleted.
"Vanderpump Rules" airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. EDT on Bravo.
