The Russian Foreign Ministry said Monday that it is willing to take part in upcoming negotiations on the Venezuela crisis that are slated to take place in Oslo, Norway.

"We will wait for the results of these negotiations. We expect these talks to help move towards the development of a generally acceptable agreement for all Venezuelan parties," Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in a meeting with Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez.

Venezuela currently faces a political crisis, as President Nicolas Maduro and leader of the National Assembly Juan Guaido both believe they are democratically elected leaders of the South American country. The dispute has resulted in power outages, food shortages and other humanitarian concerns, prompting the international community to take notice and push for a diplomatic solution.

Economists have described Venezuela's plight as the single largest economic collapse outside of a civil war in at least 45 years.

Earlier this month, members of the Maduro government and Guaido met in Oslo to discuss the crisis and find a political solution. The two sides are going to meet once again in Norway next week.

Moscow has backed Maduro despite most global leaders recognizing Guaido as the president.
