A seven-year-old boy from Pike County, Kentucky, was recovering after he was bitten by a venomous snake at a water park.

The boy, identified as Matt'x Leedy, was playing near the pool area when he was bitten by the reptile. The family members who had accompanied him to the park heard him screaming. However, they initially thought it was just a bee sting. The boy then told them he was bitten by the snake on his index and “pinky finger.”

The boy was first rushed to a nearby hospital before being flown to another hospital for treatment.

"I was like, very terrified but I tried to stay strong for him," said Kelsey Fields, the boy’s cousin. The boy was given 12 anti-venom shots and was expected to make a full recovery.

Park officials said they believe the reptile bit the boy near a hole in the park.

"As his fingers continued to swell, it became obvious it was a snake bite," said Austin Bradley, the park superintendent. "This snake bite occurred in an area of the park where you would not typically think that there are snakes around," he added.

Warning others to check the surroundings, Bradley said, "So we just always encourage everybody to always be alert even in developed portions of the park."

Officials have filled the hole in the park and the areas were roped off for. The date of the incident and the type of snake that bit the boy was not known.
