Verizon Offers Early Upgrades For iPhone 6 Launch
The iPhone 6 price wars are far from over. While many mobile networks have set up special discounts and trading deals to lure prospective customers to choose a service for their new iPhone, Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE:VZ) is also giving its current subscribers a special offer.
Starting Monday, Verizon users eligible to upgrade to a new device on or before Nov. 15 can upgrade early to a new device and a new two-year contract. The early upgrade deal will be valid for two months. Verizon says all of its currently offered devices can be purchased under the deal, including the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. The new devices from Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) are currently available for pre-order and will be released Sept. 19. Verizon users can download the My Verizon app for iOS or Android in order to see if they are eligible for an early upgrade.
Verizon is also offering customers a $200 gift card to use on the purchase of an iPhone 6, when trading in an older iPhone model. Similarly, other mobile networks and retailers are offering deals in accordance with the iPhone 6 release.
Pre-orders for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus already indicate that the launch could be the largest launch in Apple’s history. Since Friday, there have been more than 4 million iPhone 6 pre-orders. Analysts expect the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus could sell over 10 million units during its first weekend of availability.
There is also a question as to which mobile network will sell the most iPhone 6 units. Analysts believe either Verizon or AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) will take the top-selling slot. IHS analyst Wayne Lam projects the networks will sell more than 10 million iPhone units each within the next quarter.
