‘A Veteran’s Christmas’ Hallmark Movies Premiere: Cast, Trailer, Synopsis
Sean Faris and Eloise Mumford reunite onscreen in Hallmark Movies & Mysteries’ “A Veteran’s Christmas,” which will commemorate both Veterans Day and the Christmas season. The Sunday premiere marks the duo’s second movie together, with their first one being the 2012 Hallmark Hall of Fame flick, “Christmas With Holly.”
In general, Mumford’s last Hallmark movie was 2015’s Hall of Fame movie, “Just in Time for Christmas.” As for Faris, he was in last year’s “An Uncommon Grace” on HMM. “A Veteran’s Christmas” will be his third Hallmark movie with a military connection, after his 2017 film and 2011’s “The Lost Valentine.” Also in the movie is “Degrassi” alum Miriam McDonald in her first role since reprising her teen drama character on the “Next Class” edition in 2016.
In this new premiere, Captain Grace Garland (Mumford) is discharged from the Marines Search & Rescue K-9 Unit in Afghanistan and heads back home to the U.S. She heads to Cincinnati for a new job, but her car breaks down along the way in a snow bank. Luckily, a dog finds and brings her to his owner, River Crossing’s judge, Joe Peterson (Faris).
“After administering first aid to a cut on Grace’s forehead, Joe has her Jeep towed to his uncle’s auto repair shop, where she learns the damage might take three weeks to repair due to the busy holiday season,” the synopsis reveals. “Luckily, Joe has a guesthouse behind his home for Grace to stay, and according to Joe’s Uncle, if anyone had to be stranded somewhere this time of the year, ‘River Crossing at Christmas is pretty special.’”
Grace is invited to join in on all the Christmas festivities, and she starts to fall in love with the town, as well as with Joe. She starts to feel like it’s one-sided, though, when she’s ice skating with him and he runs into his ex-girlfriend Marnie (McDonald). Grace starts to worry that they still have feelings for each other.
“Marnie is not only beautiful but she also lives in Chicago, where Grace has just learned Joe might be moving to advance his career by becoming a District Court Judge,” the synopsis continues. “She’d been thinking about possibly taking Sheriff Cooper (Jacob Blair) up on his offer to head the Search & Rescue department in Rivers Crossing, but if Joe were to leave, Grace saw no point in staying.”
Later, she sees Joe on the sidewalk talking with Marnie, and then at another point hears him on the phone with her. It’s then that Grace decides it’s time to leave. She tells Sheriff Cooper that she’s leaving and she’ll get her car at another time. Not wanting to say any goodbyes, she boards a bus to get out of town, but Joe hears about it and “sets in motion a big surprise he hopes will get Grace to stay in Rivers Crossing forever.”
Faris and Mumford’s “A Veteran’s Christmas” premieres on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries on Sunday at 9 p.m. EST.
