Veterans urge Obama to address military base conditions
On February 26, Veterans for America, VFA, issued a statement urging President Barak Obama to address the dire conditions on the military bases and in communities in the United States.
This announcement comes as Obama carries out his promise made in his inauguration speech goes ahead with withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq.
Veterans feel they are given inadequate dwell time between tours as at least a dozen Army Brigade Combat Teams (BCTs) are scheduled to deploy to Iraq before the majority of troops are withdrawn adding that virtually all units will be on at least their second tour and many will not have had adequate rest between their tours.
Louisiana, Mississippi, Pennsylvania, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas and Wisconsin will all send citizen soldier BCT's to Iraq over the next several months.
VFA also stated that the continued use of stop loss orders and the heavy use of the National Guard are all factors that, according to them, risk damaging the military.
