The shooting occurred Thursday morning at the Vista Del Valle apartment complex. Resident Robert Thomas, 93, reportedly went to the complex’s management office to complain about water damage in his apartment. He approached a male and female employee in the office when he took a gun out of his jacket, holding the pair at gunpoint while he spoke.

Thomas fired one shot, missing an employee and hitting a monitor before he let two of the workers leave. Video showed him holding the male worker at gunpoint when he fired another shot, hitting the man in the leg. Thomas can then be seen firing another shot at the man’s leg.

Officers responded moments later, with cameras showing an officer firing a shot through a glass door and missing Thomas. The officer then threw Thomas to the ground and arrested him before checking on the wounded employee.

“They heard the shot and the key was the officer told this partner they had to make entry due to the possibility of any more people being injured or killed while inside that apartment complex office, not knowing what they had,” Assistant Sheriff Brett Zimmerman told reporters.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department released the security footage Monday, along with bodycam footage from the arresting officer.

Thomas faces charges of suspicion of attempt murder, kidnapping, discharge of a firearm indoors, burglary and carrying a concealed weapon. Police said he had no criminal history before the incident.
