  • A video showed medics rushing into a building after Russian soldiers opened fire
  • A separate video showed a school littered with glass after a shell hit an area nearby
  • At least 18 people have been killed by Russian shelling over the past four days: Zelensky

A video released by a Ukrainian Parliament member appeared to show Russian soldiers shooting at medics who were helping wounded civilians in the city of Kharkiv.

In footage published by Ukrainian MP Lesia Vasylenko on Sunday, a group of medics was seen assisting the wounded when members of the Russian army opened fire. Many of the medics were seen rushing inside a building as bombing can be heard in the background.

At least five people were injured in the incident, according to Vasylenko. It was not clear who took the video of the shooting.

In another video published by Reuters, the floors of a school were seen littered with shattered glass after a rocket barrage hit a residential neighborhood in Kharkiv. Galina Yevtushock, a worker at the kindergarten, said she had seen four shells flying, one of which hit the area between the walkway and the kindergarten. The bombings damaged the roof of the kindergarten as well as some furnishings inside the school.

Across the city, at least 18 people have been killed and more than 100 have sustained injuries caused by the shellings over the past four days, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky said Sunday.

"Constant shelling of our Kharkiv city continues. Today, Russian troops struck, in particular, the Culture, Shevchenko, and Darwin streets. Apparently, these words – ‘culture,’ ‘Shevchenko,’ ‘Darwin’ – are especially dangerous for Russia. This is something that threatens its existence," Zelensky said in a video address. “This is nothing but deliberate terror – mortars, artillery is fired on ordinary residential areas, ordinary civilians."

The videos come as Ukrainian forces in the besieged city of Mariupol continue to fight despite Russia demanding that they surrender. The city, which has been surrounded by Russian troops since March 1, has not yet fallen. Ukrainian troops trapped in the city have also been holding out against the enemy’s onslaught.

It is unclear how many Ukrainian soldiers are left in Mariupol. However, the Russian Ministry of Defense said it will eliminate anyone who continues to resist surrender by 1 p.m. local time Sunday. The ministry later confirmed that Mariupol didn’t surrender despite the deadline.
