An attempt by Republican Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas to attack supporters of Democratic Presidential frontrunner Bernie Sanders blew up in his face when late-night host Jimmy Kimmel stepped in to correct the comments and then blast back at Republicans.

Cruz had attempted to portray Sanders’ younger supporters as immature and uninformed by sharing a video seemingly showing them failing to name countries on a map.

“This is Bernie’s base,” Cruz said in the tweet. “The same folks who tell pollsters that socialism is great because free stuff is cool & they have no idea how many countries have tried it and utterly failed. The antidote: facts, truth & substance.”

Kimmel then addressed the tweet and pointed out that the clip was actually from a 2018 segment of his show, “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” and pointed out that one from the clip had confirmed their political affiliation.

“Bernie wasn’t even running when we shot this,” Kimmel explained. “But in fairness to ‘Sweaty Teddie,’ we decided to revisit this subject. We went out on the street and we asked people who do not support Bernie Sanders – in fact, quite the opposite. We asked them to name a country, any country, and this is how they did.”

In the clip that followed, the show’s crew asked people on the street to confirm their political affiliations and asked Republicans to name any country on a blank map. It does not go well from there.

The first man in the clip initially points to Australia and says, “I believe that’s Africa?” Afterward, he points to China and asks if it is Russia. Later, a man is able to correctly identify Africa, but mistakes it for a country and cannot name any actual countries on the continent.
