Ted Cruz has explained how he forgave President Donald Trump from all the attacks he received from the POTUS.

Cruz and Trump were competing to become the Republican’s president candidate back in 2016. At the time, they had traded attacks against each other, with the POTUS dubbing Cruz “Lyin’ Ted.”

Trump also tweeted a terrible photo of Cruz’s wife Heidi. The businessman-turned-politician also warned Cruz to “clean up his act, stop cheating and doing negative hands” or else he would sue him for not being a natural born citizen.

In another tweet, the president seemed to have threatened Cruz by writing, “Lyin’ Ted Cruz just used a picture of Melania from G.Q. shoot in his ad. Be careful, Lyin’ Ted, or I will spill the beans on your wife!” Trump wrote.

Speaking in ABC News’ Paula Faris’ “Journeys of Faith” podcast, Cruz shared how he forgave Trump. The American politician and attorney confessed that his faith prompted him to be forgiving.

“Forgiveness is critical to what it means to being a Christian,” Cruz said. “And forgiveness is something I try to … I try to forgive certainly as God has forgiven us.”

Cruz went on to say that he was blessed to be a Christian because politics could be ugly and hard work. Other people tend to say nasty things but the foundation of faith gave him the ability to let go of the troubles and stay focused on what he was doing.

“I faced a very simple choice when President Trump was elected. I had a choice about whether or not to do my job, and we had obviously come through a rough and tumbled primary,” Cruz said before adding, “But he prevailed.”

Cruz also revealed that after the election, he met the POTUS in New York at Trump Tower and they discussed the “historic opportunity” for the Republicans to have control in Washington, D.C. Cruz told Trump that he only wanted to make sure that the newly elected president would do “everything humanly possible to lead the fight in the senate to deliver on our promises.”

Cruz and Trump’s relationship has since improved. In 2018, the POTUS stopped calling Cruz “Lyin’ Ted” and gave him the new nickname “Beautiful Ted.”

Meanwhile, the White House has shared a sweet photo of Trump and Melania to celebrate their 15th wedding anniversary on Twitter. However, the couple didn’t mention their marriage milestone on social media.
