Melania Trump snubs several first lady traditions after moving to the White House.

Melania serves as the first lady of the United States since 2017 when Donald Trump was elected president. However, she ignored several traditions that the former first ladies had been following.

According to Express, there are actually no official rules but some have managed to form over the years. However, Melania did not mind those practices and opted to make her own roles.

Here are some of the FLOTUS traditions that Melania snubbed.

Immediate move to the White House

Traditionally, once the president is inaugurated, the first family will move into the White House immediately. However, the FLOTUS decided to stay longer in her home in New York with their son, Barron.

Melania waited for five months before she joined Trump in the White House. According to Kate Bennett in her book “Free, Melania”, Trump’s wife didn’t like the way Barack and Michelle Obama designed the White House, so she had it redecorated before she moved in.

“She had it redecorated when she moved in, as she wasn’t a fan of the beige and burnt orange palette the Obamas’ decorator, Michael S. Smith, had done the room in,” Bennett wrote.

“Melania kept very little of the Obama decor, which the Obamas reportedly paid for out of pocket, to the tune of $1.5 million by the end of their eight years in the White House.”

Hosting state dinners

The previous first ladies usually plan and host state dinners at the White House at the end of the year. However, the POTUS didn’t have one after her first year in the office because Melania didn’t arrange one.

FLOTUS at the State of the Union address

Usually, the president arrives with the first lady for the State of the Union address. However, Melania skipped the ceremony in 2018 and left Trump alone. Melania reportedly flew and traveled with her own guests at the time.

Meanwhile, as the first lady of the United States, Melania focuses her efforts for the welfare of the children. She started her Be Best campaign and has been visiting hospitals and schools.
