Virginia Tech Shooting: Blacksburg Transit Suspends Service
Blacksburg Transit has suspended service following the shooting of an officer on the Virginia Tech Campus. The officer is dead as is a second victim killed in the Colisseum parking lot.
Campus Newspaper, Collegiate Times, reports that students are being moved into secure rooms in the Student Center.
Virginia Tech is urging people to stay where they are. Blacksburg's Web site said people should remain inside.
The suspect is said to be on foot and is described by Blacksburg as a white male wearing gray sweat pants, gray hat with neon green brim, maroon hoodie and backpack.
A suspect surrendered near the Performing Arts building, according to the Times, but no arrests were made.
MSNBC reports that the shooting began when police stopped a person during a routine traffic stop in the Coliseum parking lot near McComas Hall. Gunfire broke out between a Virginia Tech Police officer and the person stopped by police. There were witnesses to the shooting.
The status of the shooter remains unknown.
