'The Voice' Viewers Are Furious Over Season 22 Winner Bryce Leatherwood's 'Rigged' Victory
Some viewers of the NBC singing competition "The Voice" were left furious following the Tuesday finale when America voted to crown Bryce Leatherwood the Season 22 winner.
Leatherwood beat out fellow Team Blake members Brayden Lape and Bodie, Team Legend's Omar Jose Cardona, and Team Camila's Morgan Myles.
The 22-year-old singer will walk away with the coveted title of "The Voice" along with a record deal from Universal Music Group and a $100,000 grand prize.
Following the finale, Leatherwood gushed about his big win during an interview with People. "It's just so humbling to know that people love Bryce Leatherwood," he told the outlet.
"People love what I stand for. People love my music and how I sang. It took me by surprise that America chose me. I just think my goal in life is to make people happy, and America made me happy today. I'm very excited to be 'The Voice' champion of season 22."
However, some voters across America favored other contestants and took to Twitter to voice their anger, with many users suggesting the other finalists were more talented than Leatherwood.
"#TheVoice #TheVoiceFinale is definitely rigged," one person wrote. "It doesn't make sense that this group of singers made it as far as they did. It feels like a huge setup," one person wrote.
Another person suggested that people voted based on admiration for the celebrity coach rather than the contestants' talent.
"I've never been more disappointed in #TheVoice than I was this season. The show is called 'The Voice,' not 'The Coach.' But too many vote for the coach," the individual wrote.
Leatherwood's Season 22 win marked Blake Shelton's ninth victory as a coach on "The Voice."
Shelton, who will be leaving the show after next season, has appeared on every season of the NBC singing competition since it premiered in 2011.
When "The Voice" Season 23 premieres, Shelton will be joined on the judges' panel by Kelly Clarkson, Niall Horan, and Chance the Rapper.
