‘Walking Dead’ Creator Robert Kirkman And Hyundai Build Zombie Survival Car, Unveiled At Comic-Con 2012 [PHOTO & VIDEO]
If anyone knows how to survive a future zombie apocalypse it would be Walking Dead creator and writer Robert Kirkman. Kirkman teamed up with Hyundai to customize an Elantra Coupe to become the Zombie Survival Machine. The armored car was revealed on the 2012 Comic-Con floor at the Future US Booth, and boy does it look like it can do some damage.
Our custom Elantra Coupe Zombie Survival Machine is the ultimate car for 'The Walking Dead' fans and anyone who wants to survive a zombie invasion, Steve Shannon, vice president of Marketing, Hyundai Motor America said in a press release. We are excited for fans to come and experience the Elantra Coupe and GT in a unique, post-apocalyptic way.
The car is definitely unique. When thinking of customizing a car, things like rims, sunroofs, CD changers and speakers come to mind. The Hyundai Zombie Survival Machine has much different modifications.
The customized Elantra was designed by Kirkman, and features the following:
-A front-end custom zombie plow with spikes
-Armored window coverings
-A roof hatch to allow passengers to fend off attacking walkers
-A trunk full of electric and pneumatic weaponry
-Front and back end floodlights
-Spiked all-terrain/ rally type tires
-A CB Radio System and much more
The vehicle was made in coordination with the release of Kirkman's 100th issue of The Walking Dead comic.
Working with Hyundai on this Zombie Survival Machine was a total blast and I am really excited to share this stunning vehicle with all the fans, gushed the comic creator.
Kirkman revealed that he had turned to the TV series and the comics for his inspiration, taking into consideration the packs that the zombies seem to stay in, along with the many different ways they died on the show or in the graphic novel.
Comic-Con 2012 attendees will be able to see the Zombie Survival Machine up close and personal until July 15, courtesy of the Hyundai Undead program. A zombie target practice are and zombie costume contest are also occurring at the booth.
The Walking Dead TV series will hold their Comic-Con panel at 1:25 on Friday. Robert Kirkman will be in attendance with fellow executive producer Gale Anne Hurd, showrunner Glen Mazzara and actors Andrew Lincoln, Sarah Wayne Callies, Laurie Holden, Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun, Lauren Cohan, Danai Gurira and David Morrissey.
