With less than a month to go before "The Walking Dead" returns with the final episode of Season 10, set photos have made their way online, providing clues for what's in store for the survivors during their battle with the Whisperers.
"The Walking Dead" Season 10 penultimate episode, "The Tower," had set the stage for the survivors’ face-off with the Whisperers. The episode saw Ryan Hurst’s Beta leading his horde of zombies toward the survivors, who were hiding in an old hospital building.
The trapped survivors hatched a risky plan to escape – by covering themselves in zombie guts.
Recently, actress Briana Venskus, who plays Beatrice, shared a snap on Instagram from "The Walking Dead" Season 10 finale, revealing that the survivors put their plan into action. The photo showed her with Carol actress Melissa McBride, and both of them are covered in blood and guts – a disguise used to imitate walkers.
This disguise could help the Alexandrians trick some Whisperers, thereby giving them an upper hand in the upcoming showdown, Screen Rant noted.
However, with Whisperers among the horde of zombies, it would be a tricky task to maneuver.
"In this particular instance, our people, we know that they know how to move within the herd," the finale episode's director, Greg Nicotero, said during Comic-Con@Home. "We've seen it since Season 1 Episode 2 ['Guts'] when they put the walker guts on themselves. But they've never had to maneuver within a herd that has human beings in it, as well."
"So the whole challenge for them trying to figure out how they're going to get out of the situation is they can't just be as stealthy as they usually are because there's actually people, there's Whisperers in and among the herd of walkers," Nicotero said, adding that the threat of disguised humans inside the horde "ups the stakes quite a bit."
The Season 10 finale of the zombie apocalypse drama is also expected to feature the death of a key character, and bets are on Father Gabriel (Seth Gilliam), Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) and King Ezekiel (Khary Payton).
"The Walking Dead" Season 10 finale, "A Certain Doom," will air on AMC on Oct. 4 at 9 p.m. EDT.
Although "A Certain Doom" is still considered the finale, AMC revealed in July that Season 10 will get six additional episodes.
