‘Walking Dead’ Season 5 Spoilers: Will ‘American Horror Story’ Actress Alexandra Breckenridge Play A Comic Book Character? Theories About ‘Samantha’
“The Walking Dead” is adding a new cast member who is very familiar with all things that go bump in the night. Alexandra Breckenridge of “American Horror Story” Seasons 1 and 3 will join the hit AMC series in its fifth season.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 32-year-old actress will appear on “The Walking Dead” in a recurring role as a woman named Samantha. The character is said to be “attractive, strong, smart, charming and articulate,” yet have a “vulnerable side” as well. Information like where or when Rick’s group will find her is being kept under wraps, but Samantha is also said to be a talented artist and “mother with a bohemian spirit.”
Of course no character named “Samantha” appears in “The Walking Dead” comic book series created by Robert Kirkman. Breckenridge’s character could be completely new to the series – like Daryl (Norman Reedus) – or the network could be using the name “Samantha” as a placeholder to protect any coming Season 5 storylines. If that’s the case it wouldn’t be the first time that AMC did so. In May, Deadline announced that “Wire” alum Seth Gilliam was cast in the upcoming season as “Michael Todd.” Like “Samantha,” the name “Michael Todd” does not appear in the graphic novels. It was later revealed that Gilliam would actually be playing comic book character Father Gabriel. In Season 4 the series did the same thing with Lawrence Gilliard Jr. The actor, who also appeared on “The Wire,” was initially said to be playing a character named “Roy Stark.” Gilliard’s role turned out to be comic book character Bob Stookey.
Since Rick’s (Andrew Lincoln) group just left Terminus in the Season 5 premiere, many fans have been speculating that the Alexandria Safe-Zone would be the next stop for the survivors. If the location is next, Alexandra Breckenridge’s character could be a member of that community. Check out some of our character theories below:
Denise – In the comics, Denise is a doctor living in the Alexandria Safe-Zone. While Samantha isn’t described as a doctor, the actress does fit Denise’s physical description – a red-haired woman in her early 30s.
Olivia – Like Denise, Olivia is also a red-haired woman in her early 30s. She is described as a “cheerful and friendly” young woman who is an inventory manager in the Alexandria Safe-Zone.
Amber – Rumors have been swirling that graphic novel villain Negan will be introduced by the end of Season 5. Breckenridge’s character could potentially be Amber, one of Negan’s wives.
For those unfamiliar with Alexandra Breckenridge, the actress appeared in seasons 1 and 3 of “American Horror Story.” In Season 1 of the horror anthology, Breckenridge played opposite Frances Conroy as Moira O’Hara, a housekeeper for the Harmon family. She also appeared briefly in Season 3, “Coven,” as a witch named Kaylee.
Alexandra Breckenridge has the “option” to be promoted to a series regular in Season 6 of “The Walking Dead.”
