‘The Walking Dead: World Beyond’: Everything We Know About The Spinoff So Far
“The Walking Dead” is about to go beyond as the title of the third series in the franchise is finally revealed. AMC released a teaser of the upcoming spin-off, unveiling that it’ll be called “The Walking Dead: World Beyond.” The title is the latest information we have so far regarding the new show. Here's what else we know:
The Plot Takes Place 10 Years After The Zombie Apocalypse
According to Deadline, the spinoff was originally announced back in April and with AMC stating that it would focus on the first generation of people raised during the zombie apocalypse as they leave their community to explore what’s left of the outside world. Set 10 years after the apocalypse, the story would feature two female protagonists.
The Cast Of The Show Has Been Revealed
So far, the show has cast Aliyah Royal, Alexa Mansour, Nicolas Cantu, Hal Cumpston, Annet Mahendru, and Nico Tortorella. In the teaser for the new series, it is revealed that Julia Ormond has also joined the cast.
Her character, Elizabeth, is being described as “the charismatic leader of a large, sophisticated and formidable force.” In the teaser, she appears to have the same symbol from the helicopter that has been teased on both “The Walking Dead” and “Fear The Walking Dead.” Based on what we’ve seen, it looks like this could connect with the upcoming movies focusing on Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln).
Also joining in guest roles include Natalie Gold, Al Calderon, Scott Adsit, Joe Holt, and Ted Sutherland.
A Former "Walking Dead" Writer Will Be In Charge Of The Spin-Off
Matthew Negrete, who has written for “The Walking Dead”, will be the showrunner of the series that he co-created with Scott M. Gimple. The first season will consist of 10 episodes. “Kong: Skull Island” director Jordan Vogt-Roberts will be helming the pilot episode for the upcoming spinoff.
"World Beyond" Is The Second Spinoff From "Walking Dead"
“The Walking Dead: World Beyond” is the second major spinoff from the mothership series since their previous one “Fear The Walking Dead” first launched back in 2015 and has run for five seasons so far with a sixth one on the way. The first spin-off took place prior to the main show before it ended up crossing over into the current timeline of "The Walking Dead." The first in the series of spinoffs included some of the characters from the main series getting starring roles in "Fear The Walking Dead."
The main series is currently in its 10th season with the show already renewed for another season.
No release date has been given for “World Beyond” except that it would air in Spring 2020.
