  • Warner Bros. announces the release date for "The Flash" and "Matrix 4"
  • "Matrix 4" starring Keanu Reeves will hit theaters on May 21, 2021
  • "The Flash" will be releasing on July 1, 2022

Warner Bros. has finally revealed the release dates for its highly-anticipated movies like “The Flash” and the upcoming sequel of “Matrix.”

According to Variety, the renowned studio announced on Wednesday that the fourth installment in the “Matrix” franchise will be released on May 21, 2021, while “The Flash” will finally hit theaters on July 1, 2022.

The new “Matrix” movie has taken the spot of Taika Waititi’s “Akira.” The movie based on the Japanese manga of the same name was put on hold in July earlier this year when the “Jojo Rabbit” star announced that he will be directing “Thor 4” for the Marvel Studios. Interestingly, the newest film in the “Matrix” franchise will now compete with “John Wick: Chapter 4” at the box office. Both films starring Keanu Reeves in the lead will release on the same day.

Both Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss will return for the continuation of the series alongside Lana Wachowski, who will be directing the movie. Wachowski also wrote the script with Aleksander Hemon and David Mitchell. Apart from writing and directing, Wachowski will also produce the film with Grant Hill.

The first film and its two sequels – “The Matrix Reloaded” and “The Matrix Revolutions” – accumulated a staggering $1.6 billion at the global box office. Reeves and Anne-Moss portrayed the roles of Neo and Trinity in all three movies of the “Matrix” franchise.

On the other hand, after a lot of struggles, “The Flash” is finally going to hit the big screen in 2022. The movie was originally slated for release in 2018 but due to a lot of creative challenges, the film could not enter production. The project was first announced in the year 2014. In 2016, after making a cameo in “Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice,” director Rick Famuyiwa was hired as the helmer of the movie. But he departed the project in October that year over creative differences.

In July this year, it was announced that Andy Muschietti will be donning the director’s hat for the movie that will also use “Flashpoint” in the story.

Ezra Miller, who portrayed the character in Zack Snyder’s “Justice League,” will reprise the role of the fastest human alive in the upcoming movie.
