Warner Bros. Montreal's Rumored 'Suicide Squad' Game Reportedly Canceled, Replaced With New 'Batman' Game
A new report claims that Warner Bros. Montreal has canceled its video game that’s based on the DC Comics’ “Suicide Squad.” The studio has replaced it with a new “Batman” game that will focus on Bruce Wayne’s son, Damien Wayne.
The “Suicide Squad” game was canceled earlier this month by Warner Bros. executives as it simply didn’t leave a very good impression, three insiders told Kotaku. The sources claimed that the game had been under development for at least two years, with only some small hints of it surfacing all over the internet for around the same time. The only other unconfirmed information about it is that it was supposed to be a cooperative game.
Warner Bros. Montreal was founded in 2010 and is only known for creating “Batman: Arkham Origins,” which was released back in 2013. “Arkham Origins” is set five years before the events of “Batman: Arkham Asylum,” which was developed by Rocksteady Studios. Warner Bros. Montreal hasn’t released a new console game since then.
The ending of “Arkham Origins” teased the formation of the Suicide Squad and it was actually what sparked rumors for the game itself. “Arkham Origins Blackgate,” the companion game for the Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation Vita, also teased the super-villain group in its ending.
Fans speculated that the “Suicide Squad” game would come out alongside the film which premiered back in August of this year. The only video game representation of the villainous group was on the iOS/Android version of “Injustice: Gods Among Us.” Warner Bros. added the movie costumes of Harley Quinn, Joker and Deadshot.
The only good thing about the cancellation of the “Suicide Squad” game is that its spot has now been taken by a new “Batman” game. It’s being speculated that the game might take place sometime after “Batman: Arkham Knight” with Damien Wayne taking on the mantle. There’s also a Superman game rumored to be in the works, as pointed out by Digital Trends.
